Biography
The family booklet identifies Augusta as Augusta Muller, born August 4, 1849. It says she came to the United States in 1869 with her aunt and married Ernst Friedrich Schmidt in Fremont the following year.
The account describes a household of ten children, seven of whom survived infancy, and preserves memories of family life near Fremont. It gives Augusta’s death as August 16, 1913. The 1900 census’s wife Augusta, born August 1849 in Germany, is consistent with this account.

What still needs checking
The historic birthplace spelling has not been matched to a modern locality.
The paired image includes Ernst and Augusta; it is not an individual portrait crop.
The 1921 biography of the younger Ernest uses Augusta Miller and gives a conflicting age at her death. It reports the older Ernst’s immigration in 1849, compared with 1848 in the later directory. These differences have not been silently reconciled.
