Family histories: Schmidt
Biography
A 1942 draft registration gives Ernest Schmidt’s birth as June 24, 1880, in Dodge County, Nebraska, and describes him as a self-employed farmer. This matches the birth reported in his 1921 county-history biography.
The 1921 biography describes his farming in Elkhorn Township and identifies his wife as Anna Baltz, whom he married in 1908. It names children Erna, Ernest R. and Alberta May. The reviewed 1920 census also places Earnest, Anna and daughter Erna Ruth together.
The 1940 directory transcription supplies an important later connection: daughter Erna Ruth is identified as Mrs. Harvey von Seggern. These records strengthen the identity of the younger Ernest and his family. The link to the older Ernst Friedrich and Augusta remains subject to resolving differences in the historical accounts.
